Citation CJ1

The Citation CJ1 is the first major subvariant of the Cessna CitationJet “subfamily” of small business jets. Except for possessing the same “Citation” name and the same general planform (i.e. engine nacelles mounted on the rear fuselage and low-mounted wings) of the earlier models in the product line, the CJ1 actually has very little in common with its predecessors. It is thus essentially an entirely new aircraft.

The Citation CJ1 has a noticeably shorter fuselage than those of all earlier Citation business jets, but the passenger cabin is still quite roomy. It also boasts of improvements in handling and performance. The CJ1+, an upgraded version, also features computer control for the engines to enable more accurate monitoring of the state of the engines while in flight. This feature helps further improve the already satisfactory fuel economy afforded by the aircraft’s two Rolls Royce/Williams FJ44 turbofans. The result is adequate range/endurance with reduced operating cost, and this has made the CJ1 a favorite of many business jet passengers and operators.

The Citation CJ1’s onboard amenities include 6 reclining club seats and a 59-cubic-foot baggage compartment. It also has a range of 1,300 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 389 knots.
