Global 5000

The Bombardier Global 5000 heavy business jet is an impressive mix of speed, carrying capacity, and reliability. It was designed to fulfill the need of corporate travelers for an aircraft that could achieve transoceanic and transcontinental range but with shorter flying times. Bombardier engineers thus took the basic Global Express airframe, made it smaller, and equipped it with more powerful engines.

Two Rolls-Royce Deutschland BR710A2 turbofans, each delivering 14,750 pounds of thrust, give the Global 5000 normal cruising and high cruising speeds of 488 knots and 499 knots, respectively. These engines also give the aircraft a remarkably short takeoff run of only 5,000 feet despite its maximum takeoff weight of 87,700 pounds. Furthermore, a cruising altitude of 43,000 feet will take the jet only 23 minutes to reach—still quite fast for a heavy business jet.

The Global 5000’s main cabin has a total volume of 1,881 cubic feet and can accommodate 8 passengers in standard configuration, though it can hold 17 passengers in a high-density configuration. Amenities include a full-size galley designed for hot and cold food preparation and storage and a Rockwell Collins Cabin Electronics System that in turn provides high-speed internet, a multimedia entertainment system, and satellite TV among others.
